Die Tagung "'A Woman in the Temple Court?' (tArakh 2:1). Women in Seder Qodashim and in the Temple" ist Teil des von der DFG geförderten Forschungsprojektes: "Erstellung eines feministischen Kommentars zum Babylonischen Talmud" unter der Leitung von Prof. Dr. Tal Ilan. Im Zentrum des Projekts und der Tagung steht eine Neulesung talmudischer Traditionen: Die im Talmud überlieferten Stimmen sind die eines ausschließlich von männlichen Rednern besetzten Lehrzirkels. Ebenso gilt das Talmudstudium bis heute als eine Frauen vorenthaltene Disziplin.  Die an der Tagung teilnehmenden Forscherinnen und Forscher nehmen eine Perspektive ein, in der talmudische Texte im Hinblick auf ihre Bedeutung für Frauen als Subjekte gelesen werden. Durch den Perspektivwechsel werden die oft versteckten, lautlos gemacht wordenen weiblichen Stimmen "zum Sprechen" gebracht und die Lebenswelten jüdischer Frauen der Spätantike beleuchtet. Gleichzeitig stehen damit auch Mechanismen der Ausgrenzung und Zensur, und möglicherweise, der Widerstand gegen Letztere, im Zentrum der Leküre.  Da der babylonische Talmud zentrale Bedeutung für jüdische Praxis und Identität inne hat, ist eine solche Lektüre nicht nur für die akademische Talmudforschung, sondern auch für eine zeitgenössiche jüdische und weibliche Identität von Bedeutung.
