The flow of the narrative of Joseph and his brothers and Joseph in Egypt is interrupted by a seemingly disconnected story about Juda, the fourth son of Jacob, who leaves the family enclave, marries a foreign woman, has 3 sons (2 of whom die) and is finally bested by his virtuous daughter-in-law, Tamar. What part does this text play in the overall story? Is it what it seems to be? Maybe we can even connect it to Megillat Esther, as today is Taanit Esther. The talk will be in English.

Adina Ben-Chorin wurde 1939 in den USA geboren. Sie studierte u. a. an der University of Cincinnati, an der sie ihren Magisterabschluss in Gemeindeplanung erwarb. 1965 wanderte sie nach Israel aus. Sie ist verheiratet mit Tovia Ben-Chorin, dem derzeitigen liberalen Gemeinderabbiner der Berliner Jüdischen Gemeinde. Sie arbeitet als Übersetzerin und unterrichtet als Dozentin Judentum mit dem Schwerpunkt Thora und der Rolle der Frau.
